A Little History
Joel and Mike met during their freshman year at Butler University. They both had grown up in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago and formed a strong friendship over their love of beer. During their junior year of college they completed an “Around the World with Beer” drinking challenge at a local Indianapolis Bar.
Over their final beer together, just as they were getting ready to graduate they made a pact. They decided that they would go out into the world, get on with their careers and lives, but at 40 they would “do something in the beer business.”
The Tough Reality
Over the years life took Joel and Mike to new jobs and adventures across the country. In March of 2006 Joel was diagnosed with stage four Melanoma cancer. Nonetheless, he moved forward and married his sweetheart Tricia. He fought hard but the cancer quickly spread and by May 2nd 2006 Joel lost his battle with Melanoma.
Journey to Bitter Pops
Fast forward to November 2011, Mike left the corporate world without a plan, other than the goal to fulfill the pact he had made many years ago with Joel, to “do something in the beer business.”
After a year of travel, and finally figuring out that Chicago would be “the place”, Mike began working on the Business Plan. Nick jumped on board shortly there after, and with a bit of swooning, Megan joined the Crew a year and a half later.
